Game Designer


Game designing is the act of planning, designing, and creation of a video game. To have this occupation, you must have knowledge of computer programming and software creation. Because you will always work with other desgneres, it is essential to have communication skills. There are many genres of games that you could make. There are puzzles, action, adventure, role play(RPG), massive multiplayer online(MMO), first person shooter(FPS), survival, and the list goes on and on. In the occupation, you will design and develop the essential features that games have.

The salary of game designers in the United States can range from $45,320 to $129, 700 annually, with the average being $85,240. In addition, hourly wages can range from $21.79 to up to $62.36, with the average wage at $40.98. Depending on where you work, the amount you earn can vary greatly. For example, in the District of Columbia, the wages are 455.31 an hour and $115,030 annually. However, in the state of Kansas, the wages are $34.21 an hour and $71,150 annually. Additionally, where you work is not the only factor. Experience in the job matters too.

With the increase in jobs, big studios will be hiring more and more. Some example include Electronic Arts(EA), Blizzard Entertainment, Microsoft Studios, Neversoft, and Activision.
